Our co-founder and my sister Elizabeth Lee is getting married in six weeks to her fiancé Benjamin Yong. To celebrate Malaysia Tatler dedicated 11 pages to their dating history to celebrate this joyous occasion. The talented team worked closely with the couple to re-create some of their past dates. My favourite image has to be of the couple hanging out in their favourite part of their apartment, the kitchen.

Kitchen Tea in honour of bride to be Elizabeth Lee

A Kitchen Tea was held for Bride to be Elizabeth Lee by her sister Shentel Lee in Kuching on the 9.10.2014. Guests flew in from as far as Sydney to attend this Aussie tradition. A Kitchen Tea is held in honor of a bride to be to allow her fiancés family and friends to meet and bond with her family and friends before the big day. Women are traditionally invited to help share in passing knowledge about marriage to the bride to be. Games are traditionally played with a wedding or Kitchen theme.

At this Kitchen Tea guests designed a plate for Elizabeth and Benjamin. Their designs will be turned into actual plates and gifted to the couple to add to their kitchen. Gifts were give with a Kitchen theme, a highlight was a candy floss machine given by Helen Reads best friend Abby Leong.

Guests were treated to a traditional Bridal game where a wedding dress is designed entirely out of toilet paper. It was a hard decision for Elizabeth to pick but the winning team was a dress designed by Joseph Teo, Lexie Rodrigues, Datin Esmila, Danielle Graham, Sereni Linggi and Datin Dian Lee.

The tea concluded with the reading of marriage wishes from the guests to both Benjamin and Elizabeth.

Marriage tip cards were filled in by the guests as a keepsake for the couple and the best one came from the mother of the bride Dame Betty Lee (OSJ) to Benjamin Yong.

Elizabeth – My favourite things

The globe trotting entrepreeneur

There are not many things that Elizabeth Lee has not attempted. This Graphic Designer from Sydney has a knack of mastering skills of her leisure pursuits; from being a competitive Salsa dancer, certified Deep Sea Scuba Diver to a licenced Zumba instructor. Elizabeth can be found scouring materials from souks in Istanbul, flea markets in Paris, bazaars in Egypt to night markets in Thailand. This avid traveller is the driving force behind Bowerhaus’ international growth. Though a foodie at heart, her biggest weakness is the humble potato chip.

Half the fun of receiving a gift is opening it from its package. All Bowerhaus pieces are packaged in our signature thick cotton drill pouches then placed in our hard board boxes, tied closed with a grosgrain ribbon. For store bought items they are finished off in our grosgrain handle paper bags.

The Dynamic Designer

Shentel Lee literally mirrors her Gemini zodiac sign. Highly creative and eclectically innovative, she is the mastermind behind The Playground Sydney, Sereni & Shentel, Photobooth Events Malaysia and Bowerhaus. This busy Aussie mum resides permanently in Kuching, Borneo. She is often spotted most mornings hastily gulping down local laksa and dashing to meetings with a latte in hand. You will find her on weekends, leisurely browsing in vintage stores with pram in tow. Her current craze is gifting gigantic helium balloons with exotic decorative tassel trims at every opportunity.

Nerd crush

We grew up with David and he always wanted to be a Magician. It is amazing to watch someone chase their dreams. With the odds stacked against him David climbed the enormous mountain of being an unknown magician to now consulting to the likes of David Copperfield. We love getting the odd emails from him telling us about a small movie he is working on (Now you see me), to random photos of him working with Sandra Bullock (David passed all his crossword knowledge onto her for her role in All about Steve). The greatest accomplishment though would have to be the success of his latest TED talk where he shares with us his two nerdy obsessions, magic and crossword puzzles. David we are so incredibly proud of you. xox Shentel and Elizabeth.
